Hello,

I'm thinking about this:
could it possible to implement the Joomla! ACL system on each document ?
In fact a cron should index public documents, but there's no distinction between folders to be indexed for different types of users for instance.

Maybe a workaround would be to declare an article (based on CCK content type) with the document uploaded in it.(uploaded into ifile folder) The article id should be stored as an "alias", the search plugin could point to the article, with the document in it.
But it could be only accessed with the good type of user...

Does that make sense ? :)

We are working to integrate JiFile with the components more used to manage files, so use the managing acl of the same components.

Which component you use to manage documents?

On the public website with J! 1.5 , we manage documents into articles as doc attached. At the moment, only indexing pdf docs with Pdf indexer component.

On our intranet J! 1.5 we are using Docman wich is the most advanced (OMHO) doc manager.

But we plan a J! 2.5 without Docman because it's a pain to add some advanced functionnalities, and hard to re-use in other projects.
We will use Breezing forms + Content Builder (crosstec.de) and/or Seblod 2.0 (seblod.com)
So basicaly, it will extend articles types, revamping parameters from your component + our fields for articles, to provide a full frontend publishing/indexing solution.

The advantage with Seblod or Breezing form, is that we can provide a package to download free.
The other advantage of using com_content content is that you open all the possibilities of plugins into content, templating etc...And the full power of ACL J! 2.5 (think about listing all articles from a category, but some of them only visible for specific usergroups...)
It's native to Joomla! you just put your document into an article, uploaded into the ifile folder, that's it...

The only advantage of Docman: it's faster to deploy.(but it depends how big is your website...)
It's a paid component (but you may sell the plugin ;) ) so it will interest less people as well.
