I downloaded pkg_com_jifile-1.0.2-j15.zip. Attempted install and received "There was an error uploading this file to the server." This server may be Apache...does that matter?

Hello Schleimer,
probably you've set in your php.ini "upload_max_filesize" less than 4MB?
Since the installation file is 3.23 Mb there is need to increase this value to at least 4MB.

I hope you solve your problem ;)

Is php.ini a standard Joomla file (not a complete newbie but no expert either). If necessary, I can update this file. Where is it located?

Found php.ini in root. No "upload_max_filesize" statement in the file.

In the Joomla administrator backend, it shows in php configuration upload_max_filesize = 2M; since this parameter isn't in the php.ini file I found, I don't think editing that file would make any difference. I've read various posts...some do indicate that php.ini should be edited; others indicate editing the .htaccess file; others say the host has to change the setting...

It would be best to ask your host to increase the parameter, but there is another solution:
Open the file pkg_com_jifile-1.0.2-j15.zip and go to the directory "pkg_com_jifile-1.0.2-j15\admin\ifile\adapter\helpers" extract and then delete the folder binaries from the zip.
Now install the file that will become approximately 600Kb, once installed, take the binaries folder that you had extracted and copy in the following path in joomla "\libraries\ifile\adapter\helpers".
